Higher Education Association for Information Science
The Higher Education Association for Information Science (HI) was founded in October 1990 on the occasion of the 1st Symposium on Information Science held at the University of Constance. Its work is focused on the European area.
The Higher Education Association constitutes the scientific association of those active in researching, teaching and practicing information science. The foundation of the HI renders justice to the fact that the pervasion of our society by IT does not only bear technical significances, but also constitutes a challenge to society in general.
Hence, Information Science takes into account all of the aspects associated with information technology, such as cognitive, economic, social and political aspects. It is not built upon a contrast to Information Technology. Information Science, too, is concerned with experimental work on new methods of automatic information systems. However, the focus lies on the use of information, and its effects on both private and professional areas, thus addressing the information market, which is growing exponentially, in its full scope.
